Smith of Honingham was established in 1919 by Herbert Smith, and this year we are celebrating 100 years of building in Norfolk and North Suffolk.
After the First World War the job Herbert Smith left on the Honingham Estate was no longer available. With a wife and four children to support he decided to start on his own and worked from a single garage on Mill Lane, Honingham. The business has moved from Mill Lane, but not from Honingham, and now operates from Herbert Smith House.
Herbert’s son Bert worked full time for his father in 1922, and George joined them some 10 years later as an apprentice bricklayer.
Since this time the business has grown and today we undertake a broad spectrum of projects from small extension/alteration/conversion projects to the construction of housing developments for clients (both private developers and for local housing associations), public buildings, education and commercial projects.
We believe all organisations within the industry have a responsibility for the development and encouragement of the next generation coming into the industry and work closely with local colleges to offer apprenticeship opportunities.
We welcome enquiries for most types of construction project; and would be pleased to discuss your project further; call us on 01603 880258.
